Eveready Hire takes MAN and DAF trucks the Ryder way 03 June 2014

Independent regional plant and tool hire firm Eveready Hire has added three Euro 5 trucks to its expanding delivery fleet on a contract hire deal from Ryder.

The new trucks comprise two DAF LF55-220 18-tonners and one MAN TGF 26-360 26-tonner, which are now operating from depots in Watford, Leatherhead and Godstone.

"Our hard won reputation is based on delivering quality plant and equipment exactly at the time agreed with the customer," comments Colum Mannix, Eveready's managing director.

"So it's essential to have modern, high-specification and reliable trucks that are always ready for work," he adds.

Mannix says the firm's first trucks were pre-owned and, due to their relatively short daily mileage, he was optimistic that they would deliver at least 10 years of service.

"However, the rising cost of repairs and the requirement to meet lower engine emissions, particularly with the introduction of the Low Emission Zone in London, meant that new trucks were required for us to maintain customer delivery expectations," he continues.

Mannix says he looked at several vehicle acquisition options but concluded that contract hire from Ryder was the way – "not only met all of our requirements, but also gave us better budget controls".

"Ultimately, we are not a transport business, so outsourcing the provision of our trucks makes perfect sense," he says.
