Ex Iveco Chris Thornycroft-Smith joins Gasrec management 05 March 2014

Fast-growing transport LNG (liquefied natural gas) manufacturer and supplier Gasrec has appointed transport figure Chris Thornycroft-Smith as a non-executive director.

Thornycroft-Smith brings more than 40 years' experience in the transport sectors, most famously as managing director and CEO of Iveco for the UK and Eire.

Previously he was marketing director of Leyland DAF and more recently was on the board of the FTA (Freight Transport Association), group development director of Modec Electric Vehicles and a director of transport marketing specialist Eclipse Marketing.

Gasrec expects him to provide crucial support as the firm grows its low emission bio-LNG fuel – which already supplies over 60% of the UK's gas powered HGVs – and develops its network of open-access LNG filling stations.

"Chris brings to Gasrec unrivalled knowledge of our sector, in addition to extensive business development and marketing experience," notes Rob Wood, Gasrec's chief executive officer.

"He joins us at a time when the need to reduce emissions from transport – particularly heavy goods vehicles – has never been more important across the UK and Europe.

Thornycroft-Smith originally trained as a production engineer and gained an MSc in production engineering and management at Brunel University.
