FairFuelUK delivers letter to Downing Street calling for 3p cut in fuel duty12 March 2014

FairFuelUK is delivering a letter to the prime minister today (12 March) urging him to use next week's budget to cut fuel duty by 3p – a tax cut which, say campaign backers, is self-financing since it would boost the economic recovery.

The letter congratulates the government for its understanding and action on transport costs – it is the only government to date to have reduced fuel duty – but says more needs to be done.

"Those efforts have helped millions of families and businesses survive the recession and contribute towards the nascent economic recovery," it says. "Had fuel duty been left alone diesel would now be near £1.65 a litre and there would little talk of a brightening economy."
It goes on: "We are calling on you to support a 3p duty cut that will continue to bolster the economic recovery."

The letter is signed by FairFuelUK spokesman Quentin Willson and backed by organisations include the RAC, Freight Transport Association, Road Haulage Association and UKLPG.
