Farm machinery supplier ploughs on with Sprinter vans21 July 2015

Agricultural machinery supplier Oakes Bros is replacing its mobile service van fleet with Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 313 CDIs, supplied by Rygor.

The Hampshire-based operator's latest three additions join three other Sprinters commissioned last year and two that have been in service since 2013.

Key to the fuel-efficient Mercedes-Benz Sprinter's appeal for Oakes are its rugged reliability and a rear-wheel drive system that comes as standard – the company previously had to order rear-wheel drive as an option to ensure its engineers could reach equipment often located in muddy fields.

The medium-length Sprinters are fitted with modular Tevo racking to carry tools and spares.

Edmund Lindley, managing director of Oakes Bros, says: "The feedback from our field engineers has been entirely positive, not least because we've equipped their Sprinters with optional air conditioning, while it's also reassuring that Mercedes-Benz leads the market in terms of safety."

The Sprinters are expected to be in operation for ten years and Lindley adds: "The vehicles have performed flawlessly so far, and we've every confidence that they'll last the pace.

"The Sprinter also comes with long maintenance intervals, and Rygor's own mobile technicians undertake routine servicing and any repairs at our depots, which minimises downtime for us and means we don't lose chargeable hours.

"It's an excellent, all-round package."
