Farrall’s ahead of the game on Driver CPC compliance 30 September 2013

Farrall's Transport is in a good place with achieving Driver CPC compliance by the deadline of September 2014, according to managing director Mike Farrall.

"With one year to go, most of our drivers have completed at least three out of the required five days and we have many already picking up their qualification card, having finished all their training," he says.

Farrall says that success so far is down to the firm having established on-site courses run by a consultancy on the first Saturday of every month.

"Following the most recent course we are well over 75% complete," states Farrall.

"While the qualification card is obligatory, we have married our own objectives to the courses, which ensure that our drivers are properly trained in all areas of their job, rather than using Driver CPC simply as a box-ticking exercise," he continues.

"We put our drivers on a separate rotation of five modules – which include driver hours, safe and fuel efficient driving, and safe loading of vehicles," he explains.

"So when a driver gains their DQC, they will also have completed at least one of these modules. After 2014, every driver will receive at least one full day of training a year on something applicable to our business."
