Federal-Mogul Powertrain launches new clutch piston technology 08 December 2015

Federal-Mogul Powertrain is presenting its Unipiston developemtn this week ((7 -10 December) at the 2015 CTI Symposium, in Berlin.

The latest iteration – Unipiston with integrated springs – is claimed to improve clutch performance and reduce package space requirements.

Federal-Mogul Powertrain says it is particularly well suited to clutch packs in dual clutch transmissions as well as conventional automatics and limited slip differentials.

The new technology builds on the savings in package space and assembly complexity already achieved with Unipiston, providing engineering designers with even greater flexibility and performance.

Gian Maria Olivetti, chief technology officer, Federal-Mogul Powertrain, explains that the new Unipiston eliminates separate spring carriers, so reducing the axial length, which is often a constraint in pistons for multi-plate clutch packs.

“This innovative Unipiston with integrated springs provides even greater advantages, allowing our customers to design even more compact and robust transmissions,” he insists.
