Fife Council cashes in 15% fuel saving from Webfleet18 April 2018

Fife Council is reporting annual fuel savings of £189,000 following the implementation of a driver improvement programme underpinned by Webfleet, a fleet management solution from TomTom Telematics.

The cloud-based system delivers performance data, scoring drivers and helping to identify where training is needed.

As well as resulting in improved driving style, with less harsh steering, braking and speeding, for example, the council’s adoption of Webfleet led to a drop in carbon emissions last year of 3,400 tonnes, thanks to the 15% improvement in fuel performance.

“We have seen our staff become much more motivated to improve their driving style and encouraged to drive with more consideration,” said Jennifer Thain, operations officer at Fife Council.

“As well as cutting fuel consumption, this ultimately reduces wear and tear on tyres, brakes and clutches.”

The system is also improving response to call-outs, reports the council, by despatching the most appropriate vehicle from its 1,600-strong fleet.
