First concrete mixer on new Iveco Trakker Hi-Land chassis17 January 2014

Johnston Services has taken delivery of the first concrete mixer in the UK to be built on Iveco's new Trakker Hi-Land 8x4 chassis.

Supplied by dealer Hendy Van & Truck, the vehicle is the second Iveco to join Southampton-based Johnston's five-strong mixer fleet.

The 32-tonne vehicle was specified with an EEV-rated 12.88-litre FPT Industrial Cursor 13 engine, capable of 410bhp between 1,380 and 1,900rpm, plus 2,100Nm of torque between 900 and 1,380rpm.

The engine features a fixed-geometry turbo and a waste-gate valve, aimed at generating the torque and power for off-road work.

It also has a EuroTronic automated transmission, fitted as standard in all new Trakker models, built for Iveco by ZF, with a gear selector built into the steering column stalk.

"We already have a previous generation Trakker on the fleet, which has been excellent on fuel and the drivers love it," remarks Iain Johnston, director.

"Everything about this new-generation vehicle is exactly right; the chassis, driveline and cab are perfectly set up for our type of work."

The Trakker Hi-Land will be in operation five and a half days per week, including night work, and is expected to clock up to 50,000km per annum. It will remain on the fleet for at least six years.
