First DAF CF Silent goes into operation with Abbey Logistics27 May 2015

Abbey Logistics has taken delivery of the first DAF CF Silent tractor unit to go into UK operation.

Operating on its British Salt contract, the CF 440 FT Silent is paired with a Feldbinder 'command steer' tanker, and is delivering goods to sites in and around London.

Supplied on hire purchase through Paccar Financial, the vehicle has been joined by seven Euro 6 DAF XF 440 FTP tractors, part of a recent DAF order totalling £2.5 million.

The latest additions were ordered after a three-way competitive evaluation of brands, focusing on fuel, maintenance and driver acceptance.

"DAF won on every count," says Steve Granite, managing director of the Bootle-based logistics operator.

"Over six months, DAF delivered the most convincing cost-effective whole life package."

Abbey worked with DAF on the specification for the CF 6x2 Silent to maximise payload. The truck is built on an FTP chassis with mid-lift axle and a CF sleeper cab, delivering a weight saving of 800kg.
