First DAF XF Euro 6 hits the road in Britain 18 July 2013

The first DAF Euro 6 XF Super Space Cab to be ordered by a British operator has gone into service with Glossop-based David G Davies & Sons.

DAF's 12.9 litre MX-13 engine, rated at 510bhp, powers the two-axle tractor unit, while a ZF intarder has also been specified to assist braking on long descents and reduce wear on the service brakes. A 12-speed AS Tronic gearbox completes the powertrain line-up.

Chris Davies, transport manager and a director of the family firm, placed the order last year as soon as the model became available.

"I felt that, as we would have to accept Euro 6 at some point, we should get one well in advance of the 2013 year-end deadline and see how it performs," explains Davies.

"So far I'm very impressed," he continues. "It's incredibly quiet and the gearbox is very smooth.

"Ryan Pennington, the driver who has been allocated the truck, is delighted with the drive and overall performance of the truck, which results in part from the slightly wider chassis and revised suspension. He also likes the cab layout and in particular the dashboard, which he thinks is superb.

"It's too soon to quote fuel figures, but early indications are that it is proving economical."

The company bought its new XF, which is running with a Montracon tri-axle curtain-sided trailer, from DAF dealer F&G Commercials of Barnsley.
