First four Strata buses for McColl’s Travel18 March 2020

Dumbarton-based McColl’s Travel has taken delivery of its first four Strata low floor buses, from Mellor, to meet additional capacity for its contract with the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT).

The vehicles join a 40-strong fleet and are going into service on new dial-a-bus contracts in Inverclyde and West Dunbartonshire.

The order was placed following a successful trial, as Liam McColl, managing director, explains: “We were immediately impressed by the economy and the performance of the Strata – the vehicles are very reliable and a perfect size for these new contracts.

“They have already proven to be very popular with both drivers and passengers alike, and it’s likely we’ll look to Mellor again the next time we need to expand our fleet.”

The Strata has a 22-passenger capacity and space for two wheelchairs, and is built on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis.

It is said to be the most compact bus range to meet the requirements of Low Emission Bus (LEB) certification. This means operators can benefit from Bus Service Operator Grant (BSOG) rebates under the government’s Low Carbon Emission Buses (LCEB) scheme.
