First IRTE Workshop Accreditation presentations 07 March 2013

IRTE recently presented the London Borough of Redbridge and Pullman Fleet Services with the first IRTE Workshop Accreditation plaques.

Representatives from IRTE (Institute of Road Transport Engineers) and FTA (Freight Transport Association) visited the two organisations – Redbridge's workshop in Ilford and Pullman's Stoke premises – to congratulate the companies on being the first to achieve IRTE Workshop Accreditation.

"The fact that we've achieved IRTE Workshop Accreditation gives operators confidence in our services, and allows comparisons with providers of similar services," states Redbridge engineering manager Eddie Cross.

"As a service provider, it also gives us confidence that we have a proven, audited system that will keep our drivers and other road users safe," he adds.

And Graham Hunter, managing director of Pullman, comments: "IRTE Workshop Accreditation provides a vindication of our workshop standards and our approach to safety. I'm delighted Pullman are at the forefront of this initiative, which provides an objective assessment of our capabilities as a progressive service provider."

Pullman's Stoke site is based at a Sainsbury's distribution depot, and the supermarket was keen for its maintenance provider to gain the accreditation.

"I've always supported an accreditation for VMUs [vehicle maintenance units]," says operation support manager for Sainsbury's Gary King.

"At Sainsbury's, we have a large fleet of vehicles and maintaining high maintenance standards is paramount to us. We need to ensure we always get the best service to the highest standards."

"Pullman and the London Borough of Redbridge are leading the way in excellence with the maintenance and repair of commercial vehicles," says Ian Chisholm, head of operations and communications at IRTE's umbrella organisation SOE (Society of Operations Engineers).

"These workshops have always displayed the highest standards in the work they carry out, but the fact their customers can now be absolutely confident in the level of maintenance they receive is an importance step forward for the industry."
