First public demo of full-size autonomous bus at NEC04 October 2019

The UK’s first full-size autonomous bus was on show this week at Coach & Bus UK 2019 (2-3 October; NEC, Birmingham), where it gave its first public demonstration.

Members of the public were invited to board the 11.5m Alexander Dennis Enviro200 bus. It travelled autonomously around a car park at the NEC, from a mock-up bus wash to a fuelling station, completing its route at a bus stop.

The bus is a result of a partnership between Fusion Processing, ADL and Stagecoach.

Next stop for the vehicle is the CAVForth project, where it joins four other autonomous single-deckers travelling a 15-mile route between Fife and Edinburgh, crossing the Forth Road Bridge. That trial is expected to take place in mid-2020.

The vehicle uses Fusion Processing’s

CAVstar control and sensing system, which

is integrated

with the steering, throttle and braking systems.
