FirstGroup’s graduate scheme entry closes 31 December15 December 2017

Ambitious graduates, particularly from engineering backgrounds are being sought for training scheme with bus and train operator FirstGroup.

Those who join the scheme will undertake placements across the UK as they fast-track themselves towards senior management roles.

Applications, which close 31 December, are being accepted for five different schemes: bus operations management, bus engineering, rail engineering, rail operations management and finance management.

Paul Siaens, who leads recruitment for FirstGroup’s graduate scheme, said: “The graduate programme is ideal for hardworking, motivated people who are at the start of their career and want to make a big impact from day one. This time, we’ve created more spaces on the scheme and we are particularly interested in receiving applications from graduates with engineering qualifications.

“Last year, we launched a finance graduate scheme – which was hugely popular – and we recently launched our new South Western Railway network. This all means it’s a really exciting time to join FirstGroup.”

Successful applicants will receive hands-on experience, technical training and mentoring.

Evie Carroll, currently in the first year of her graduate programme, said: “I love having responsibility at work and being given challenges and tasks where I can push myself. The rotational placement system on FirstGroup’s graduate scheme appealed to me as I am exposed to a wide variety of new challenges and opportunities. For example, as well as learning managerial skills, I’ve been learning to drive buses, so I will gain an understanding of the challenges faced at every level.”
