Five of DAF’s finest 18-tonners head for Freightroute 24 September 2013

Palletised distribution operator Freightroute has taken delivery of five DAF LF55 18-tonne rigids – marking a 20-year relationship with supplying dealer Brian Currie (Milton Keynes).

Lawrence David 8.5m-long Fuelsaver bodies have been fitted to the Northamptonshire operator's 5.85m-wheelbase DAFs, and each has also been equipped with a 1,500kg Dhollandia cantilever tail lift for palletised load deliveries.

These bodies have a curved roof to improve aerodynamics which neatly aligns with the adjustable roof spoiler on the day cabs, contributing further to the renowned fuel economy of the DAFs achieved through good driveline matching.

Power is from the 6.7-litre DAF GR165 six-cylinder engine, rated at 220bhp at between 1,900 and 2,500rpm, and with a torque of 850Nm at between 1,200 and 1,700rpm.

The GR engine meets both the Euro 5 and EEV emissions standards through the use of a common rail injection system and SCR technology. It has been matched to a six-speed AS-tronic automated transmission, with a 11.5-tonne parabolic SR1132 rear axle completing the driveline.

The trucks are backed by a two-year warranty with safety inspections and routine maintenance to be carried out in Freightroute's own workshops in Irthlingborough. Brian Currie will provide parts support through its Northampton site.
