FJ Need tastes success with growing Volvo FH fleet 09 December 2015

Cheese production specialist FJ Need has expanded its all Volvo FH tractor fleet with the acquisition of six new Globetrotter cabbed FH-500 6x2s – six fleet replacements and one addition.

The Nantwich, Cheshire-based firm has been operating Volvo trucks since 2006, all supplied by Thomas Hardie Commercials, but the latest truck additions follows the opening of its new £5 million factory at its Spinneyfields Farm site in July.

“We are a very image conscious company and the Volvo trucks are an integral part of our business,” states FJ Need transport manager Simon Platt.

“They are all on Gold R&M contracts with Thomas Hardie at Middlewich... They collect the trucks for servicing and inspections on Friday afternoons and deliver them back on Saturday morning,” he says, adding that service has been “excellent”.

Platt alkso singles out Volvo’s Dynafleet telematics as instrumental in improving operational efficiency.

“We’ve been using Dynafleet across the fleet for three months for tracking, managing fuel and AdBlue usage straight from the truck, and also helping manage drivers’ hours in relation to WTD requirements,” he explains.

“There is also a live feed from the tachos and we access a breakdown of logged in hours. Dynafleet is a very useful aid to maintaining compliance and has also helped with our insurance premium.”

FJ Need’s Volvos are coupled to Krone Duoplex Cool Liner trailers with Carrier Vector 1550 fridges. Three of the trailers are also new additions to the fleet.
