Fleet data and fuel efficiency drive Volvo choice for Multimodal Logistics16 July 2015

Multimodal Logistics has taken delivery of three Volvo FH-500 6x2 tractor units – completing an order for 13 trucks – citing fleet data and fuel efficiency as key reasons for its decision.

Supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia, the Felixstowe-based operator is expanding its business and now has 28 FH trucks.

"The new Volvo FH trucks are cheaper to run and they get better mpg, regularly achieving 10 mpg. They have even recorded as much as 12.6 mpg," says general manager Tim Wray.

"The reliability of the trucks, the excellent support and the proximity of dealer premises to our operating locations means I can concentrate on the business rather than being engrossed in day-to-day logistical issues," he adds.

Fuel consumption is one of four factors that contribute to the company's monthly driver performance bonus scheme. "We log tachograph records, attendance, accidents and fuel consumption," says Wray.

Volvo's Dynafleet delivers the data: "The system, alongside the wireless automatic tachograph download, means I can monitor parameters such as braking, idle time, power take-off and coasting from my desktop. These combined Volvo systems really help to empower me in the decision making process."

All the trucks are on three-year fixed term leases with Volvo Financial Services, and are supplied with Volvo Gold R&M contracts.
