Fraikin keeps the Fors with Encon Insulation 07 March 2014

Encon Insulation has renewed its contract with Fraikin to supply and maintain FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) compliant vehicles for its nationwide distribution fleet.

Under the new seven year full service deal, Fraikin is delivering 36 new vehicles, including 26 DAF CF 26-tonners, nine 32-tonne DAF CFs, and a 7.5 tonne DAF LF, all fitted with automated transmissions and aftermarket extras to bring the vehicles up to FORS standard.

Also included in the contract are 19 new Hiab Moffett truck-mounted forklifts, selected for their lighter weight, together with their ability to automatically mount/dismount from the vehicle in less than a minute.

Introduced by TfL (Transport for London) in 2008, FORS –which is aimed at improving operators' safety, fuel efficiency and vehicle carbon footprint – is increasingly a requirement from major contractors.

With safety as a key priority, particularly with regard to vulnerable road users such as cyclists, the new vehicles have been fitted with close proximity sensors, cameras and Fresnel lenses – with plans to retrofit similar equipment on other Fraikin vehicles leased to Encon.

Barbara Sudlow, national facilities manager at Encon, says that the new fleet was also specified with extra equipment, including safety harnesses, an improved load restraint system, portable access ladders and telematics to increase vehicle efficiencies.

Other enhancements include: a reinforced tree protection bar secured to the reinforced bulkhead to reduce the risk of vehicle damage; and an additional LED lighting system for on-site deliveries.

"What differentiates Fraikin from other suppliers is that they are willing to listen, ready to develop solutions and understand our industry," says Sudlow.
