French transport operator accelerates towards target of 1,000 gas trucks27 November 2017

French transport operator Jacky Perrenot has ordered 250 Stralis NP heavy trucks from IVECO, almost 200 of which will feature the newly launched Curser 13 454bhp natural gas engine.

The operator has declared its longer term target to have 1,000 gas vehicles on the road by 2020.

The announcement, made at the Solutrans show in Lyon, follows Jacky Perrenot’s order last year for 250 Stralis NP trucks, on that occasion with 395bhp engines.

“This new order marks an important milestone in the group’s history,” said Philippe Givonne, CEO of the Perrenot Group’s transport subsidiary, adding that the IVECO truck is enabling his business to “push back the limits of sustainable transport”.

He stated: “We made the choice of gas many years ago, and today we are strengthening our position as leaders in clean transport in Europe thanks to IVECO’s expertise in alternative fuels.”

The 1,000 gas-powered vehicle target will enable the operator to meet demand from its customers in the food sector, he said, as well as increasingly from the construction sector.

Pierre Lahutte, IVECO brand president, said: “By choosing our new Stralis NP 460, Jacky Perrenot demonstrates the potential of natural gas and biomethane as an immediate alternative for freight transport.”
