FTA’s online updates keep truck operators on the move 20 December 2010

With the wintry weather conditions forecast to return to many parts of the UK this week, the FTA is offering truck operators up-to-date information on road and weather conditions online.

The Freight Transport Association website now includes: latest weather information from the Met Office; traffic RSS feeds for roads across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland; and advice for operators and drivers on how to deal with the severe conditions.

FTA also provides daily traffic update emails throughout the working day, as a service for FTA members.

Malcolm Bingham, FTA's head of road network management policy, says that over 50 additional members have signed up for the emails in the last 24 hours.

"The transport industry has to rely on robust and accurate information on road conditions so that it can operate its vehicle fleets efficiently and safely," says Bingham.

"FTA has worked over a number of years to provide comprehensive, up-to-date information to those operators from a variety of different sources."
