Fuel saving ‘guaranteed’ with new Michelin offer24 February 2015

Michelin Solutions is launching a new pence-per-kilometre (PPK) tyre management contract, which includes a guarantee on fuel savings – said to be the first of its kind in the industry.

The offer will be unveiled at the Commercial Vehicle Show (14-16 April, NEC, Birmingham) and will be available to customers on Michelin's Effitires contracts, when fitting premium low rolling resistance tyres.

Michelin says the fuel-saving guarantee will be measured in litres per kilometre – such as 0.5 litres per 100km, though it predicts most customers will save more than this.

To be eligible, an operator must: have telematics fitted across at least 70% of the fleet; have an operation suitable for low rolling resistance tyres; and not currently be using the fitments.

If the contracted fuel saving is not achieved, Michelin Solutions will reimburse the operator on a pro-rata basis.

Paul Davey, commercial director of Michelin Solutions in the UK and ROI, says: "We have absolute confidence that when we take responsibility for managing a fleet's tyres, we can free up the customer's time to concentrate on their core business, plus we extend tyre life and increase fleet uptime.

"But we also focus on keeping every tyre in peak operating condition – effectively within the 'green band' of tyre performance. When you combine this with advances in Michelin's low rolling resistance tyre technology, we have a seriously strong fuel-saving proposition."
