Fuso Canter ‘best on the market’ for Scottish charity13 January 2020

Scottish charity New Start Highland has taken delivery of its third Mercedes-Benz Fuso Canter truck, declaring the vehicle’s body and payload to be “the best on the market” for 7.5-tonners.

The organisation runs six retail outlets, delivering donated furniture and other items to families and individuals in need. The latest addition is its third Fuso Canter, joining two others that have been in service for six and three years.

Supplied by dealer BLS Truck & Van, of Aberdeen, the 7C18 model is powered by a 3.0-litre common-rail turbodiesel, producing 173bhp and up to 430Nm of torque. A fully automated, dual-clutch Duonic transmission contributes to fuel efficiency, while an engine brake is also fitted as standard. The Canter’s box body is by Truckcraft Bodies, of Cheshire.

Jonathan Nichols (pictured), New Start’s transport manager, says: “The Fuso Canter represents great value for money, and offers the best body and payload allowance of any 7.5-tonner on the market.

“Ours will accept a full four tonnes, which is exceptional. In truth, volume rather than weight tends to be the issue for us, but it’s nice to know this very high carrying capacity is available to us when we need it.”

He also praises the truck’s build quality and reliability, along with its manoeuvrability.

The vehicle was paid for by the fundraising from in the annual Highland Cross duathlon.

Nichols adds: “The dealer put together a very attractive package that reflected the nature of our business, and has been very supportive.”
