Fuso Canter weighs in with solution for Evans European Transport17 April 2018

Grimsby-based Evans European Transport has taken delivery of a Fuso Canter 7.5-tonne refrigerated truck fitted with a sleeper body, with “more than a tonne” more payload than other manufacturers could offer.

Supplied by dealer Northside Truck & Van, the Canter 7C18D started life as a standard chassis with double crew-cab. It was converted by Hatcher Components, with the second row of seats replaced by a full-sized bed. Gray & Adams then fitted a 5-metre, single-compartment insulated box body and GAH EX700 refrigeration unit.

“The resulting vehicle provides exactly what we wanted,” says director Colin Evans.

“Crucially, thanks to the Canter’s light yet robust chassis, we’ve been able to achieve our target payload of 3.0 tonnes with ease. That’s around a tonne more than most other manufacturers could offer on a 7.5-tonne truck with sleeper cab.”

The vehicle joins four other Fuso Canters in the operator’s 26-strong fleet. The latest addition is powered by a 3.0-litre common-rail turbo-diesel, which delivers 430Nm of torque over a broad engine speed range. The truck’s 173bhp output is transmitted via a Duonic dual-clutch automated gearbox, while an engine brake and stop-start system is included as standard.

It will be maintained by the workshop team at Northside Truck & Van’s Immingham branch.
