Fuso Canter’s productivity tips balance for Cappagh 26 March 2014

Wimbledon-based contractor Cappagh has taken delivery of 20 7.5-tonne Fuso Canter tippers.

All are Canter 7C15s, supplied by Mercedes-Benz Dealer Rygor's Heathrow branch, and all are on utilities duties, used mainly by tarmac gangs.

Plant manager John Gormley says that the clinchers were market-leading payload capacity, rugged durability and a compact footprint that makes the Canter suited to urban operation.

"These vehicles ... transport debris away from site, while also bringing in tarmac and tools to complete the job," explains Gormley.

"The Canter is not too big, so relatively easy to manoeuvre in congested areas. And at 3,900 kg it will carry about half a tonne more than we'd get on a conventional 7.5-tonner, which represents a big win, in terms of productivity."

Rygor took back 15 older Canters in part exchange, but Cappagh is also still running another 10 Canters purchased in 2012.

"Rygor have been extremely helpful," continues Gormley. "We first worked with them when they helped resolve one or two warranty issues we were having with our oldest Canters, which dated back to 2010.

"Their efficient sales service, coupled with the back-up we've received from the after sales team, was key to our decision to order these latest vehicles from Rygor."

Cappagh's new Canters are equipped with twin-plate, dual-clutch Duonic automated transmissions. Their tipping bodies were supplied and fitted by Abba Commercials, of Dover, which also fitted roof-mounted beacons.

Cappagh will be maintaining its new Canters in-house, but relies on Rygor for regular parts deliveries and warranty support.

Its latest trucks are the subject of a flexible Agility funding package from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services.
