Gasrec supplies first Isle of Grain terminal LNG to UK refuelling stations 12 November 2015

Transport methane and biomethane fuel specialist Gasrec has supplied the UK’s LNG (liquefied natural gas) refuelling station network with its first road-delivered fuel from National Grid’s new Isle of Grain LNG terminal in Kent.

The company assisted National Grid with the terminal’s initial commissioning over a two day period before the facility went live yesterday (11 November 2015).

Gasrec will now use the state-of-the-art Isle of Grain facility to supply its growing national truck refuelling infrastructure, which currently fuels more than 60% of the UK’s dual-fuel and dedicated gas trucks.

“This is excellent news both for Gasrec and for the many retail and logistics companies in the UK who have invested in growing their fleets of low emission gas vehicles,” states Rob Wood, Gasrec CEO.

“The critical aspect has always been to ensure the UK has reliable and consistent availability of gas fuel, and the new Grain terminal is a crucial supply point into this network,” he continues.

Wood insists that the economic, commercial and environmental benefits of natural gas as a vehicle fuel are already widely recognised in Europe and around the world.

“It is now time for the UK to take these benefits seriously and encourage growth of this beneficial low-emission technology, particularly when improving our air quality and reducing pollution is such a critical issue,” he says.

With National Grid’s Isle of Grain facility now live, the UK has the largest LNG import terminal in Europe. It also has the largest LNG refuelling station in the form of Gasrec’s Dirft facility, near Northampton.
