GBA revs up fuel economy with Euro 6 DAF XF tractors18 May 2015

Logistics business GBA Services has invested £2.5 million in 10 Euro 6 DAF XF tractors, after its first order of the same trucks – in operation since July 2013 – delivered improved fuel economy of up to 8% compared to equivalent Euro 5 vehicles.

The Preston-based operator's 4x2 XF 460 FT Super Space Cabs will be used for its UK and European time-critical operation for automotive clients.

The vehicles are also supplied with DAFaid, the truck manufacturer's service offer which promises swift response to any problems.

GBA measured fuel performance on its Euro 5 and Euro 6 DAFs and found an average improvement in fuel economy of 5-8%. David Birkbeck, GBA's managing director, says fuel economy is only part of the reason for the new order – driver appeal and service back-up were key criteria, too.

"Our customers demand a modern, time-critical logistics operation and if an issue should arise on the road, we demand an appropriate response that absolutely minimises downtime," he says.

"DAFaid shows a willingness to go the extra mile and it's that commitment that gives us peace of mind... It's a safety net that DAF provides – and it really works."
