Gerry Jones Transport raises the bar with Michelin05 September 2017

Gwent-based haulier Gerry Jones Transport has specified Michelin’s new X Multi D series drive tyres – first unveiled at the CV Show earlier this year – which promise up to 20% more mileage than the previous X MultiWay 3D range.

The operator has specified Michelin for 15 years and regularly checks competitor products but, says workshop manager Nathan Jones, no other manufacturer “gets anywhere close” in terms of mileage performance.

“The previous generation drive tyres were in a class of their own, and we’re confident the new X Multi D rubber will raise the bar even higher,” says Jones.

The first set of new X Multi D tyres have been fitted to a DAF tractor, which is expected to clock-up more than 120,000km a year. It will operate with a range of trailer types on national work, and with a dedicated driver – in line with the customer’s one driver, one truck policy.

The tyres feature Powercoil, a new generation of steel casing cables which help to make each tyre lighter yet more robust. They also have Regenion tread technology that progressively reveals hidden grooves to maintain grip throughout the tyre’s life. ‘Tower Pump’ sipes in the tread blocks provide greater traction on slippery road surfaces by breaking the surface of the film of water that it passes through.

Gerry Jones’ tyres are supplied and fitted by ATS Euromaster, with routine tyre maintenance performed in house.

All four new drive tyres have been registered for Michelin’s accidental damage guarantee.
