Gist cool with Carrier Transicold fridge units 17 February 2016

Supply chain logistics business Gist has kept the faith with Carrier Transicold, selecting its Vector 1550 fridge units for its latest 91-strong refrigerated trailer fleet renewal programme.

The mono-temperature Vector 1550 systems have been mounted on 13.6 metre Gray & Adams tri-axle reefers, which will transport chilled produce throughout the UK for the retail food industry.

They join a fleet of 2,500 trailers operating across Europe, predominantly in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Holland and the UK.

“In the chilled distribution world, time is of the essence [so] by selecting the Vector 1550 we can continue to maximise uptime for our customers, thanks to the units’ low maintenance requirements,” comments Gist engineering director Sam de Beaux.

Vector 1550s use Carrier Transicold’s patented E-Drive all-electric technology, which removes 17 serviceable parts from the refrigeration cycle, and is claimed to reduce maintenance and so increase uptime while helping to deliver precise temperature control.

Other advantages claimed by the manufacturer include a cooling capacity of 14,995W with optimised fuel efficiency, achieved via its patented combination of a hermetic compressor with an economiser – which, in turn, enable the use of a 1.5 litre diesel engine.

E-Drive technology is also claimed to reduce refrigerant leak rates by up to 55%, compared to conventional reefer systems.

Gist plans to retain the trailers for 12 years, and expects its new Vector 1550s to clock up to 2,000 hours on the road annually.
