GiTi Tire offers breakdown cover with GT Assist 25 January 2013

In a bid to better engage with transport operators and grow its market share, GiTi Tire has launched GT Assist, a roadside assistance service for its GT Radial brand.

"We have an established dealer network with around 180 sites around the UK, and we want to be able to offer our customers the service that they provide 24/7," says Peter Foulkes, GiTi Tires' marketing director for commercial vehicle tyres in Europe.

The full roll-out follows a soft launch in December 2012, something that provided encouragement for Foulkes.

"We saw a 99% fitment rate of GT radials on breakdowns we attended. Without GT Assist, that figure would be in the region of 50%."

The service offers an industry-typical maximum 90 minute response time.

GT Assist will be managed by RAC Commercial Assistance (RACCA), which will take the initial breakdown call and find the nearest dealer with both the correct product and capability to attend the scene.

"We want to engage with larger fleets. The first question they will ask is about breakdown cover, so we want to be ready," states Foulkes.

"But we are not going into competition with the larger dealers, just opening the door. We like to think that the operation will be as a mid-range player, reflecting where our tyres are in the market."
