GLW Feeds fills up on Mercedes-Benz Actros 01 December 2015

Agricultural feeds supplier GLW Feeds is running its first Mercedes-Benz trucks, with a pair of Actros tractor units joining the firm’s 30-strong fleet of Swedish articulated and rigid vehicles.

Both are Actros 2551 models with aerodynamic StreamSpace cabs, and specified with the 510bhp straight-six engines driving through Mercedes PowerShift 3 AMTs (automated manual transmissions).

Transport Manager Andy Andrews says the five-year R&M package offered by East Midlands Mercedes dealer Mertrux sealed the deal, with contract hire packages arranged through sister company Pentagon Vehicle Rentals.

“We knew the Actros was a good solid truck, because we’d tried a couple of rented tractors which performed very reliably,” recalls Andrews.

“They were well-built with comfortable cabs, and seemed very economical... [But] we were looking for much more than good vehicles – the back-up had to be of equal quality too.”

Andrews says he was “highly impressed” with Mertrux. “Sales executive Simon McGuinness has been an absolute gem throughout the acquisition process, and has done everything we asked for done straight away.”

Andrews says GLW Feeds has also already seen Mertrux’s driver trainer Dave Stevens, for the driver truck introduction process. He now expects maximises fuel efficiency via the Actros’ on-board technology.

“I’ve also arranged for a representative from Mercedes-Benz FleetBoard to instruct our traffic office team and our drivers in the use of the telematics systems fitted to the Actros as standard,” he adds.
