Golden Triangle rates Volvo tractor and loader combo 14 February 2013

A new Volvo FH 6x2 tractor unit fitted with a huge PM85 loader is not only successfully loading, transporting and unloading mobile generators for Golden Triangle Generators, but also helping to attract new customers.

So says Golden Triangle managing director Graham Cornes, pointing to a 'Silence is Golden' banner on the truck's headboard, which, he says, refers to his 'super silent' generators.

"The new Volvo is the first to join our fleet," states Cornes. "A great deal of thought went into its design and we were impressed by Volvo's willingness and ability to build a vehicle that incorporated every single feature we felt we needed."

For Cornes, the end result is "a truck that not only meets our expectations, in terms of performance, but which is a dream to operate and really looks the part".

Powered by the 13-litre 500bhp Volvo diesel engine, the truck, although capable of operating at a gross weight of 65-tonnes under STGO authorisation, has been plated at 44-tonnes to avoid operating restrictions.

Installation of the PM crane was carried out by Truck Hydraulics at Thorne, near Doncaster, while painting and sign-writing were completed by Signs and Designs of Liverpool.

Cornes says that buying this truck was not just about the vehicle: supplier Thomas Hardie Commercials was also important in offering the right balance of skilled staff, opening hours and facilities.

"When making an investment of this magnitude, it's important to know that you can rely not only on the quality of the vehicle, but also on the expertise and commitment of the after-sales support systems," he observes.
