Grampian Continental sold on benefits of Mercedes Actros26 March 2018

Aberdeen-based logistics operator Grampian Continental has taken delivery of its first Mercedes-Benz tractor units, after hearing “entirely positive” feedback on the brand from other local operators.

Supplied by dealer Caledonian Truck & Van, Grampian’s new additions are three high-spec Actros 2563 units with GigaSpace cabs.

All are powered by 616bhp, 15.6-litre straight-six engines, generating 3,000Nm of torque, and have been specified with the manufacturer’s safety pack which includes Active Brake Assist 4 and Proximity Control Assist systems.

The trucks also have Uptime maintenance technology, which uses sensors to monitor vehicle condition and sends data to the workshop so parts can be ordered in advance, minimising off-road time.

Grampain Continental director Neil Bremner says the firm's experience of Mercedes-Benz vans has shown them to be "extremely reliable", but he asked other operators before deciding on the Actros.

“Their feedback in terms of the vehicle’s performance, cost effectiveness and reliability was entirely positive. We therefore decided it was time to give Mercedes-Benz a chance to show us what they can do,” he says.

Bremner adds: “We’ll be monitoring the new trucks very closely over the months and years to come. The initial signs are certainly positive, while we also take great pride from the smart appearance of our Actros, which look great in our livery.”
