Green energy business sparked by Mercedes van efficiency06 August 2015

Low-carbon energy company Vital Energi has taken delivery of 30 Mercedes-Benz Citans and nine Sprinters, selected for their green credentials and reliability, described by Vital as “head and shoulders above the rest”.

Supplied by dealer Ciceley Commercials over the past six month, the new fleet comprises Citan 109 CD long vehicles and Sprinter 313 CDI short panel vans.

All are BlueEfficiency models containing a package of fuel-saving features, such as an alternator management system, improved underbody aerodynamics and the Eco start-stop function.

The Sprinters have also been fitted with on-board power systems – engine-driven generators to power fusion welding equipment used by engineers who install heating and power systems.

"Energy efficiency is our field of expertise so naturally we expect our vehicles to be as sustainable as possible in terms of fuel use and exhaust emissions," says group fleet manager Paul Carberry.

"The average carbon footprint per vehicle of our fleet is already way below the target specified by the European Union, and these new vans will only help to reinforce our position."

He adds: "During my time in the transport industry I have experienced vehicles from most leading manufacturers, and Mercedes-Benz Vans are head and shoulders above the competition when it comes to reliability."
