Haulier reports clear benefits with Volvo FM22 June 2015

Cardiff-based P&T Woodruff Haulage has taken delivery of a Volvo FM 8x4 mixer and is reporting high productivity thanks to the truck’s increased ground clearance.

Supplied by Truck and Bus Wales & West, the FM-450 8m³ truck mixer has a Globetrotter LXL cab, an 11-litre D450K engine, rated at 450bhp, and manual 12-speed gearbox.

Tim Woodruff, who runs P&T Woodruff with his brother Philip, says the new truck, with straight front axles and B-Ride parabolic steel rear suspension, is delivering high levels of productivity – thanks to its off-road ability on construction sites.

"I drive the FM and the ground clearance is fantastic, thanks to the straight front axles and high chassis," says Woodruff.

"This FM also has very good approach and departure angles, and is proving to be very capable in deep mud and on wet sites," he continues.

"I've had to take it through axle-deep mud and water on a number of occasions and the excellent traction and ground clearance have been much appreciated, as have the Bridgestone L355 tyres on the drive axles. The turning circle is very good, too."

The vehicle also has a rear-view camera, with dash screen, and a nearside Roadhawk camera.
