Hills Quarry takes first Renault tipper10 July 2017

Following a comprehensive vehicle assessment and selection process, Hills Quarry Products has taken its first Renault Trucks Range C tipper.

The company’s stringent evaluation criteria included vehicle performance, driver feedback, financial viability and dealer back-up service. The 32-tonne Range C430 8x4 and supplying Renault Trucks dealer, Sparks Commercial Services (Swindon), delivering the combined results that secured the deal.

John Warner, transport manager, Hills Quarry Products, says: “Early in 2016 we were granted access to a Range C eight-wheeled tipper demonstrator to allow a thorough assessment of its performance including carrying capacity, fuel consumption, driver comfort and safety features. The assessment gave us really positive results with each driver who tested the vehicle rating it highly for its spacious, ergonomic cab, good torque and excellent visibility.”

As well as vehicle performance and, as part of the decision-making process, financial viability was evaluated against quotations from a selection of manufacturers. John adds: “Following the combined results of these assessments, the decision was made to purchase our first Range C eight-wheeled tipper from Renault Trucks and we have since added a Range D sweeper.”

The truck’s deployment on challenging terrain meant that responsive, reliable service and back up from Sparks Commercial Services were also key in the vehicle selection process.

John Warner continues: “Our trucks are tested to the limits in very punishing environments. As part of Hills Quarry Products’ commitment to high standards and road safety, we operate a five-year rolling replacement programme in addition to all of our vehicles being subject to full repair and maintenance contracts, to ensure every vehicle is maintained in an optimum condition. Sparks Commercial Services’ service has been impressive and, as well as great parts availability, it has been quick to respond to any issues arising and been timely with paperwork to meet all the legal requirements.”

The new Range C, with Charlton Superlite tipping body, delivers aggregates and screed from Hills Quarry Products’ network of six quarries and five concrete plants to customers in a wide range of industries.

He concludes: “Quarries have a naturally bumpy terrain that requires a combination of driver skill and training, as well as a robust vehicle drivetrain and safety features that ensure successful and safe delivery.”

An additional 16-tonne Range D250 Johnston Sweeper V651 works around the company’s sites at the Cotswold Water Park.
