Home interiors business sharpens focus on fleet data21 June 2019

Home interiors wholesaler McGowan and Rutherford has implemented a vehicle tracking solution, from Kinesis, using the technology to manage its fleet of low-loader style vans.

The Cambridgeshire-based operator delivers to independent retailers throughout the UK and chose the cloud-based solution for its ability to provide fleet visibility – Kinesis is part of UK Fuels, so the solution also integrates with fuel cards, enabling the operator to monitor fuel consumption and manage expenses claims.

“Following extensive research, we selected Kinesis based on price and performance,” says Michael Druce, logistics manager at McGowan and Rutherford. “The integration with our existing fuel cards was also an important consideration.”

As well as reducing paperwork and administration, Kinesis is providing the operator with accurate mpg calculations as well as driver performance data. With information on speeding, harsh braking and accelerating and idling, the system can be used to target and improve driver behaviour, with resulting cost benefits.

The operator is also using the technology to monitor driver hours, driving times and break periods.

“Kinesis was easy to choose, is easy to use and is easy to access – available on any internet-connected device,” adds Druce.

“It gives us live location reports, updated every 30 seconds, displayed against an easy-to-interpret map screen, as well as historic information for checking expenses and monitoring driver hours and behaviour.”
