Horningold hauls up fuel efficiency with Volvo FH 08 February 2016

Hornigold Haulage has extended its 30-strong fleet by one third, taking delivery of 10 new Volvo FH 6x2 tractors.

Supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia, the Wellingborough-based operator’s new additions are FH-540 models with Globetrotter XL cabs and high-spec interiors, including leather upholstery, integrated Bluetooth phone, single bunks and seven-inch colour dashboard displays.

“We specified these trucks to a level that helps retain residual value and supports driver recruitment,” says Brian Horningold, managing director.

“Furthermore, the leather upholstery is easy to clean, so even after two to three years, which is normally how long we keep our trucks, the interior remains tidy.”

Fuel efficiency is king, he adds, and the Volvos deliver: “We don’t skimp on horsepower because I believe, within reason, you use less fuel. Furthermore, delivering that power via the I-Shift transmission offers even more savings.”

He also specified 315/80 tyres, saying this helps to reduce tyre wear and to hit “the sweet spot” in terms of fuel efficiency.

The vehicles are supplied on Volvo’s Gold R&M contract.
