Horseman invests in ten more Panthers for Euro VI fleet upgrade11 February 2019

Reading-based operator Horseman Coaches has taken delivery of ten Plaxton Panther Euro VI coaches, from Alexander Dennis (ADL), as part of a £10m, five-year strategy to upgrade its fleet and facilities.

The new arrivals are all 12.8m, 53-seaters with DK8 engines and I-Shift transmission. They are equipped with parallel lift lockers, kitchenettes/servers, fridges, toilets, entertainment and CCTV camera systems.

The 60-strong fleet is now split evenly between Euro V and Euro VI models.

The introduction in April of the ultra low emission zone (ULEZ) in London is a key factor in the fleet upgrade programme, as director James Horseman (pictured) explains: “Being based in Berkshire and doing a lot of business inside the M25 corridor, such as corporate work and airport transfers, we have to stay ahead of legislative change… However, we also have to be realistic and acknowledge that we cannot replace all 60 of our coaches overnight.

“That means balancing our fleet, and using Euro V Cheetah, Leopard, Panther and Elite models for school contracts, private hires, day trips and tours outside the London and M25 zone, while introducing their Euro VI counterparts for work within the ULEZ.”
