Howard Tenens takes delivery of first Euro 6 dual-fuel conversion 29 October 2014

Howard Tenens is about to take delivery of the first Euro 6 dual-fuel diesel and CNG (compressed natural gas) vehicle in Europe – a newly converted Mercedes-Benz Actros 2445.

The conversion was provided by Prins Autogas on the Euro 6 Actros – breaking the hiatus that has dogged new truck conversions since Euro 6 became mandatory in January this year (2014).

Howard Tenens says it approached Prins to provide a solution to converting Euro 6 tractor units to dual-fuel as part of its search for an innovative technology partner.

The freight company says it wanted a Euro 6 dual-fuel solution sooner than the two year timescale predicted by pundits for OEM production line trucks "to ensure the momentum in the industry was maintained".

The conversion work has now been completed and Howard Tenens takes delivery of its new Euro 6 vehicle on Monday 3 November 2014.

The Actros 2445 specified has the 12.8 litre 450bhp Euro 6 engine with predictive powertrain control, and has been plated for 44 tonnes gvw ,000kg operation. CNG fuel tank capacity is 93kg.

According to group fleet engineer Paul Gowland, the Mercedes-Benz Actros conversion will shortly be followed by a Euro 6 DAF dual-fuel Prins CNG conversion.

Howard Tenens will be carrying out fuel trials involving both CNG and diesel Euro 6 vehicles over the coming months.
