Howard Tenens wins environmental award30 August 2018

Logistics operator Howard Tenens has taken top spot in the environmental category at the UKWA (UK Warehousing Association) 2018 awards.

The Stroud-based operator has almost 40 CNG-powered trucks in its fleet and has been running two dedicated gas 26-tonne rigids as part of the Low Emission Freight and Logistics Trial, funded by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) in partnership with Innovate UK.

Other environmental initiatives include solar panel installations at several sites, dual fuel CNG conversions and successful waste management projects within the business.

“We are thrilled to be recognised for the efforts we have made to integrate gas vehicles into our fleet and take major strides in cutting our transport emissions,” said Anna Rickard, environmental manager.

“We started our gas journey 10 years ago and we wouldn’t be where we are today without the enthusiasm and positive attitude of our drivers and transport staff.

“Our trials of the latest generation dedicated CNG trucks have proved extremely positive and once we start using biomethane we will achieve an impressive 80% reduction in CO2 emissions, helping to drive down our carbon footprint even further.”

The UKWA (UK Warehousing Association) Awards were held in July at The Dorchester, London.

It is the second award that Howard Tenens has won recently: it also picked up a prize at the 2018 Motor Transport Awards for its ‘Clear Planet’ livery (pictured), promoting alternative fuels and a positive environmental message.
