Hyva/Schmitz combination tips it for Allied Plant03 October 2016

Allied Plant has taken delivery of two Schmitz tipping trailers fitted with Hyva’s heavy-duty tipping cylinders, declaring the specification as “absolutely ideal” for its work.

The Castleford, West Yorkshire-based operator chose Hyva’s FE191 tipping cylinder, with a lifting capacity of 35 tonnes. With the Schmitz trailer, this provides versatility, handling anything from long-haul distribution of quarry products to short-haul transport of concrete and rubble from demolition sites.

“These new trailers are giving our fleet a significantly higher level of versatility,” confirms Allied Plant’s owner John Hourigan.

“With the rest of the fleet being rigid tippers and tipper grabs, running artics lets us appeal to new customers with different types of work. But the really important point is that the artics still have to be able to handle the arduous, often short-haul work that the rigids do. Essentially, the artics have to be dual-role tippers where strength, performance and rugged construction are every bit as important as payload.

“For our work, the ultra-rugged Hyva/Schmitz combination is absolutely ideal.”

Currently transporting stone and recycled aggregates between Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Scotland, Allied’s new trailers are clocking up the miles, typically with payloads of around 28 tonnes, depending on the tractor unit.
