Hyva tipping gear all around for JPE’s steel and alloy bodies 03 May 2013

Midlands-based JPE has replaced nearly its entire vehicle fleet in one hit, with the purchase of 20 Volvo FM 8x4 tippers.

The new additions have been fitted with 10 steel Boweld boldies and 10 Wilcox alloy bodies, and all feature FC137 tipping gear from Hyva.

"We simply get paid for what we deliver," says JPE's transport manager Stephanie Price, explaining the specification.

"Our operation is really split two ways – heavy work such as muck-shifting and site clearance; then lighter duties, such as delivering sand and aggregates," she continues.

"For the maximum performance and productivity, each type of operation demands its own body: one steel, the other alloy. But for the tipping gear, the Hyva 137 almost chose itself by combining strength and ruggedness with a wet weight of less than 480kg."

On payload, the aluminium bodied trucks tare off at 11,300kg, affording a carrying capacity of 20.7 tonnes –making them as payload-productive as a modern tipper can be. The steel bodied trucks are 700kg heavier but still offer 20 tonnes carrying capacity for their heavier duties.

"In replacing the fleet, we looked at every part of the vehicle specifications very closely," says Price. "We'd run Hyva tipping cylinders very successfully for many years but now the latest, lighter model has given us another extra slice of payload. We can't really ask for anything more than that."

Another five aluminium-bodied Volvo tippers will be joining the JPE fleet later in the year.
