Hyva’s Alpha range tips the balance on lightweight, high-tech cylinders14 May 2014

Hyva is launching Alpha, its new range of tipping cylinders and tractor kits, at the forthcoming TIP-Ex 2014 event (Harrogate, 29 to 31 May).

The Alpha range both updates and extends Hyva's tipping cylinders, for rigid tipper and trailer applications. As a result, says Hyva, it can now offer an optimum, minimum weight solution to match any tipping application.

The latest cylinders are lighter than their predecessors, with the weight saving coming from lighter internal components and a reduction in the cover tube weight. Despite this, the cylinders are stronger, with thicker walls, and longer to give operators more stability and safety.

The weight saving is greatest for the largest cylinders, used on tipping trailers. The bottom plates are lighter, as well as the outer covers. As a result, for example, the FC169 cylinder is now 33kg lighter than its nearest direct competitor.

The new range also has a clear division between products intended for standard and heavy-duty applications.

Standard duty covers most UK on-road, 32 and 44 tonne tipping operations; heavy duty focuses on off-road construction and transport applications, including mining. The Alpha heavy duty cylinders have a slightly shorter stroke and larger cylinder overlaps.

In addition, Hyva tractor kits now have redesigned oil tanks and lighter cast brackets. They feature a new standard gear pump, as well as a tipping valve now mounted on the base of the cylinder for extra safety.
