I-Shift Dual Clutch tips it for OJ Jones19 November 2019

Welsh tipper operator OJ Jones & Son has purchased the UK’s first Volvo FM rigid equipped with the I-Shift Dual Clutch.

The vehicle has been assigned to long-serving driver Raymond Roberts, who says the gearbox has been “a revelation”, in terms of handling and fuel economy.

“The smooth traction and accurate gear changes delivered by I-Shift Dual Clutch are amazing, particularly on the numerous hill climbs we encounter during each day,” says Roberts, adding that the vehicle has cut fuel use by 24 litres a day compared with another truck on the 17-strong tipper fleet.

Supplied by dealer Thomas Hardie Commercials, the FM Globetrotter chassis has a 13-litre D13K engine producing 454bhp. The PTO-equipped, I-Shift Dual Clutch gearbox has enhanced software for on-road application, while the single reduction drive axles have a ratio of 3.78:1.

OJ Jones opted for a 5.1m wheelbase on the extra high FM chassis along with Volvo’s two-spring parabolic B ride suspension. The Globetrotter cab option also includes a One Bed Resting package.

The vehicle has a Wilcox tipper body and Binotto hydraulics.
