Iceotemp specifies Carrier unit for first 18-tonne reefer24 September 2019

Temperature-controlled distribution business Iceotemp has taken delivery of its largest vehicle to date, an 18-tonner fitted with a Carrier Transicold Supra 850 multi-temperature (MT) unit.

The rigid body is built by Gray & Adams on a Renault chassis, and its size means the vehicle can replace smaller vehicles on some routes from the operator’s depot in Somerset.

The Supra 850 MT provides constant airflow, independent of engine speed, which means rapid pull-down and accurate multi-temperature set point control, enabling Iceotemp to transport a range of chilled and frozen food, as well as pharmaceuticals and medical supplies.

“This is the first time we’ve specified a truck of this size. We used to rely on several vans to make multiple deliveries to the London area, but we can now consolidate some of those journeys into one,” says Paul Gould, commercial director for Iceotemp.

“Carrier Transicold is the best in the business for this sort of application, which is key for the variety of goods we transport and because the truck will be clocking more than 100,000 miles a year.”

The vehicle is expected to be in operation for six years, and its Supra unit is backed by Carrier’s EverCOLD fixed cost full-service maintenance package, which includes annual temperature control testing and certification, regulatory checks, and access to the oneCALL 24/7 incident management service.

Gould says the company is now looking to add Carrier-cooled vehicles into the fleet for other delivery routes to the Midlands and the North.
