International haulier puts Volvo FH rigids in the spotlight02 December 2019

International entertainment and events haulier Fly By Nite has taken delivery of four Volvo FH rigids – the first to join its 170-strong fleet.

Supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia, the four FH 6x2 low height chassis have full air suspension and are fitted with box bodies by Transport Enterprises. The box bodies come with tuck away tail-lifts and removable loading ramps, which are stowed for transit beneath the FHs’ chassis.

The 26-tonne rigids are powered by D13K engines with a power output of 454bhp.

As well as Volvo’s Active Safety packages, Fly By Nite opted for Globetrotter XL Cabs with I-Park Cool climate control, as the FHs will be away from base for several weeks at a time.

“We’ve used Volvo’s FH tractor units for many years now and the drivers like the comfort standards and build quality. We looked at the FH range for our 26-tonne vehicle requirements and were very impressed at the high specification that could be achieved with them,” says Richard Brown, transport manager.

“Despite the long distances involved with concert tours and exhibitions, our vehicles usually remain parked at venues for a given time. Therefore our annual mileage totals are not excessive,” he says. “We have our own in-house maintenance facility and body shop. It’s not unusual for one of our fitters to go on tour with a major job, to carry out the required safety checks, servicing or repairs at the various venues en route.”

The vehicles are expected to remain in service for eight years.
