IRTE conference to major on technology and compliance 09 June 2015

The IRTE (Institute of Road Transport Engineers) has revealed additional programme details for this year’s IRTE Conference, with a dual focus on profiting from technology and compliance.

Being staged on 17 September, in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, the IRTE Conference is offering separate afternoon streams, first on legislation and compliance, and second on telematics, tachograph updates, aerodynamics and hybrid powertains – all aimed helping operators to cut costs and improve profitability.

For the compliance session, delegates will hear from DVSA head of policy development and vehicles Peter Hearn, as well as traffic commissioner Kevin Rooney and solicitor James Backhouse, of Backhouse-Jones.

For the technology stream, Matt Hague, executive director at Microlise, Graham Lackey, group managing director at Brit European, and Ian MacAulay, innovation manager, fleet engineering services at DHL, will cover Telematics. Then Kevin Green, of Continental, will examine new and improved roles for tachograph management.

Then Ian MacAulay, innovation manager at DHL, and Richard Owens, marketing manager with Don-Bur Trailers, will describe advances in aerodynamics. And finally, Jon Hilton, product development director at Torotrak, will examine progress with hybrid powertrains that offer realistic fuel-, cost- and environmental-saving opportunities for commercial vehicle operators.

Staged in association with Transport Engineer magazine, other headline participants will include CVDC (Cambridge Vehicle Dynamics Consortium), TfL (Transport for London), McLaren Racing and Cenex (Centre of Excellence for Low Carbon and Fuel Cell Technologies).

This year's keynote will be delivered by CVDC director professor David Cebon, who will discuss emerging and future technologies set to transform the efficiency and safety of commercial vehicles and the road network.

Transport for London Commissioner, Sir Peter Hendy CBE, will also give an address, explaining the importance of CLOCS and FORS accreditation, which are together aimed at making the transport industry safer, particularly in urban areas.

Delegates and exhibitors are also being invited to attend a pre-conference dinner on the evening of 16 September, with after dinner speaker Geoff Miller, previous Chair of Selectors for England cricket.

The event is sponsored by Mobil Delvac 1, Brigade Electronics, Bullwell Trailer Solutions, Disclock, Pirelli, TRW and Volvo Trucks.
