Isuzu’s new 18tonne refrigerated truck launched as demo 07 July 2010

Isuzu has put a new 18-tonne 4x2 refrigerated demo vehicle into service boasting a 9 tonne-plus payload and unlimited mileage three-year warranty on the body, refrigeration system and chassis/cab.

Keith Child, marketing director at Isuzu Truck UK says: "When we launched the new Forward range, the food distribution sector was an instant success for us, especially at 7.5tonnes. Last year, we operated a fridge demo truck at 11tonnes and now we are showing customers the benefits of our even larger 18tonne range."

The new Isuzu F180.260 18tonne rigid has a Gray & Adams 24ft dual compartment refrigerated body, fitted with a moveable bulkhead, for operating with chilled and frozen goods.

Refrigeration is provided by a Carrier Transicold Supra 750MT system and the vehicle is also fitted with a 1.5tonne tuckaway tail-lift.

The Forward F180.260 is powered by Isuzu's turbocharged and intercooled 4-cylinder diesel engine, with EGR (exhaust gas recirculation), providing 191kW (260bhp) at 2,400rpm and peak torque of 761Nm from 1,450 rpm, matched to an Eaton six-speed manual transmission.

The cab is Isuzu's roomy new Hexapod design day/rest cab: some operators convert the cab into a sleeper simply by fitting curtains and a night heater. It also has good cross-cab access and equipment such an air suspended driver's seat, dual SRS airbags, cruise control, exhaust brake, keyless door entry, immobiliser and radio/CD player, all as standard.
