Italians launch innovative fire-fighting concept 05 December 2011

A new all-terrain fire-fighting and emergency vehicle has been jointly developed by the Iturri Group and Italian Chassis manufacturer Bremach, with support from Allison Transmission.

Their Lynx is built on Bremach's T-Rex chassis, and has been fitted with a 176bhp, 400Nm, three-litre twin-turbo Euro 5 Fiat Powertrain engine. The pair say it is designed for for off-road operations, and point to its gvw of 6.5 tonnes.

That has been achieved using technologies such as EcoPolyFire technology, a recyclable, eco-friendly, plastic developed by Iturri for the body. Lighter and longer-lasting than traditional plastics, the material allows for a more compact vehicle with enhanced operations over any terrain. Moreover, the Lynx's bodywork enables a greater water tank capacity for fire-fighting.

Trial users have been impressed with the responsiveness and smoothness of the fully automatic transmission as well as the power, speed and manoeuvrability of the new vehicle. The Lynx has been fitted with a five-speed Allison 1000 Series fully automatic transmission connected to a two speed transfer box, resulting in a total of 10 gear ratios.

Allison torque converter technology also ensures torque multiplication, for manoeuvring over all terrain. And thanks to full-power shifting, it also enables acceleration faster than manual or AMT gearboxes.
