Iveco Daily Hi-Matic vans for Culina’s Corney & Barrow contract 07 June 2016

Culina, the food and drink supply chain operator, has acquired two Iveco Daily Hi-Matic vans for its dedicated Corney & Barrow wine merchant fleet following three months of testing a demonstrator from dealer Guest Truck & Van.

Culina’s Corney & Barrow account manager Mark Adlington says the firm selected the 7-tonne Daily van after examining several brands’ alternatives.

“Iveco secured the order on the back of positive feedback from our drivers, as well as the vehicle’s projected low total cost of ownership, excellent payload capacity and impressive gearbox,” states Adlington.

The eight-speed ZF Hi-Matic transmission changes gear in less than 200 msec and is claimed to reduce R&M costs, compared to manual boxes, by 10%, thanks to its durability and reliability.

Corney & Barrow specified the Daily Hi-Matic ‘Regional’ transmission – one of three variants aimed at fleets needing on-road flexibility.

Drivers can select ‘Eco’ mode – preferring low-speed gear changes to minimise fuel consumption – or ‘Power’ mode to enhance performance.

“The majority of our deliveries are in urban areas, so a fully automatic gearbox is ideally suited for the job,” comments Adlington, adding that the Hi-Matic makes driving more comfortable and, from a safety perspective, “allows our drivers to focus on the road ahead”.

The new arrivals will be based in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, and used for customer deliveries in the Home Counties, covering 35,000 miles annually and remaining in service for four years.
